In answer to the OP's original question my Audi 3.0 TDI is a great engine but only has 28,000 miles on the odometer so I can't answer questions about high mileage. Before the Audi I had a VW 2.0 TDI with about 120k miles which was perfect. I'm a fan of diesel power. My Dodge Ram has 208k miles.

Jun 19, 2020. #3. Not sure specifically for the A4, but the 2.0TDI units are rock solid for reliability, only issues I could see would be related to the newness of the AdBlue tech. My Dad's 2013MK7 Golf GTD with the 2.0TDI 184ps output engine and DSG (same as S-Tronic) is up to 135k miles without missing a beat.

As Simon says, the 3.0 is better suited and some say the 2.0 is underpowered for the heavy cab. The cab weighs around 200kgs more than the coupe! So you will have to press the 2.0 more than the 3.0, which will even out the mpg differences. The power from the 3.0 more makes up for the lesser mpg.

Hi All im looking into buying a 3.0 tdi convertible A4 Quattro auto ive had a few audis predominantly diesels .2 Unbelievablely reliable 1.9 tdi A4s then a 2.0 tdi that had a recall for replacement injectors. Then an A3 with 2.0 tdi. I have also had an A6 allroad 2.5 tdi for the last 6 years.
S-tronic or tiptronic depends on the model year, as I think it was 2010 Audi switched to s-tronic in their cars. 4758 posts · Joined 2010. #5 · Feb 27, 2015. the original Multitronics had a clutch with 6 lamells, basically all of these clutches have been modified to have 7 lamells. since then, the problems seem to be solved. bottom line: Audi is abandoning the Multitronics. there is going to be S-tronic also for FWD.
